What this Trial Is About
This study will assess the effects of eating whole grain foods versus refined grain foods with different amounts of added sugar. It is hypothesized that a diet including grain products will have beneficial effects on taste hedonics, appetite, food/energy intake, body weight, blood pressure, acute and chronic glycemia and acute and chronic lipemia compared to customary diets controlling for added sugars, saturated fats and sodium.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Male or female aged 21 to 60 years
- Hemoglobin A1c between 5.7% and 6.4%
- Prefer no medication use, but if on medication, must be stable for 3 months and remain stable during the study
- Habitually low whole grain intake (less than 2 servings per day)
- High energy intake from added sugar (more than 10% of energy)
You will not qualify if you...
- Allergies or sensitivities to grain, dairy, or other foods causing refusal to eat those foods
- Celiac disease
- Current smoker
- Planning to lose or gain weight during the study
- Planning to change physical activity during the study
- Using blood thinners
- History of gastrointestinal surgery
