The purpose of this research study is to test whether Brief Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia (BBTI) delivered over the phone or Brief Mindfulness Training (BMT) delivered over the phone is better able to improve the symptoms of insomnia, reduce chronic pain, and slow the pace of biological aging in individuals with HIV and Chronic Pain.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Confirmed HIV diagnosis and current patient at the WashU Infectious Disease Clinic
- Age between 25 and 65 years
- Currently receiving stable antiretroviral therapy for HIV
- Insomnia Severity Index score of 15 or higher and meet DSM-5 criteria for insomnia with sleep difficulty at least 3 times per week for 3 or more consecutive months
- Presence of chronic pain with a rating of 3 or higher on a 0-10 intensity scale
You will not qualify if you...
- History of stroke in the past 12 months
- Active cancer currently under treatment
- Heart disease
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Epilepsy
- Active pregnancy
- Reynaud's disease
- Traumatic injury or surgical procedure within the last 12 months
- Acute infection with a temperature over 100.4°F
- Serious psychiatric disorders such as bipolar or psychotic disorders
- Active suicidal thoughts
- Severe obstructive sleep apnea (AHI greater than 30 per hour) or other sleep disorders besides insomnia
