What this Trial Is About

Helicobacter pylori infection affects a large portion of the global population and is linked to serious stomach conditions including ulcers and gastric cancer. This research aims to understand the factors that cause pre-cancerous lesions like atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia to progress into cancer. There is also debate on how often and by what methods patients should be monitored, and this study sets up a registry to explore these important clinical questions over time. The study involves a diagnostic procedure called esophagogastroduodenoscopy to collect detailed clinical information on patients with Helicobacter pylori infection, atrophic gastritis, or intestinal metaplasia. Researchers will track patient outcomes, study factors influencing disease progression or regression, and gather data to improve surveillance strategies. Additionally, a biobank will be established to support further research on these stomach conditions. Participants will be followed longitudinally, with evaluations including clinical assessments and data collection to understand risks and outcomes over at least three years. The main focus is on clinical outcomes of patients with H. pylori, along with risk factors for gastric pre-cancerous lesions and cancers. This ongoing observational study will also monitor the effectiveness of surveillance and collect samples for future analysis, with participant involvement including questionnaires and regular reviews.
