Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Adult patients 18 years old or older
- Diagnosis of cirrhosis confirmed by histology, radiology, or elastography
- Presenting to the emergency department or admitted to inpatient general medicine
- Have at least one of the following: ascites needing diuretics or fluid removal, hepatic hydrothorax needing diuretics, or hepatic encephalopathy requiring medications
You will not qualify if you...
- History of solid organ transplantation
- Currently on hemodialysis
- MELD score greater than 20
- Score less than 10 on Simplified Animal Naming Test (S-ANT1)
- Currently admitted for significant gastrointestinal bleeding or alcohol withdrawal
- Require routine administration of controlled substances
- Deemed ineligible by clinician evaluation based on hospital or hepatology criteria
