Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Unilateral deficits following stroke more than 6 months prior (consent possible after 4 months but enrollment only after 6 months)
  • Age between 18 and 85 years
  • Weight less than 350 pounds
  • Able to follow 3-step commands
  • Able to walk with self-selected speeds between 0.10 and 1.0 m/s without physical assistance, using below knee bracing or assistive device if needed
  • Lower extremity Fugl-Meyer score less than 34
  • Medical clearance to participate
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Evidence of cerebellar ataxia
  • Uncontrolled cardiopulmonary or metabolic disease limiting exercise
  • Active heterotopic ossification
  • Recurrent lower extremity fractures
  • Previous orthopedic or neurologic injuries impairing walking that could affect safety or study objectives
  • Currently in other physical therapy
  • More than 50 units of Botox in the lower extremity or Botox above the knee if wearing an ankle-foot orthosis within the past 3 months
