Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Unilateral deficits following stroke more than 6 months prior (consent possible after 4 months but enrollment only after 6 months)
- Age between 18 and 85 years
- Weight less than 350 pounds
- Able to follow 3-step commands
- Able to walk with self-selected speeds between 0.10 and 1.0 m/s without physical assistance, using below knee bracing or assistive device if needed
- Lower extremity Fugl-Meyer score less than 34
- Medical clearance to participate
You will not qualify if you...
- Evidence of cerebellar ataxia
- Uncontrolled cardiopulmonary or metabolic disease limiting exercise
- Active heterotopic ossification
- Recurrent lower extremity fractures
- Previous orthopedic or neurologic injuries impairing walking that could affect safety or study objectives
- Currently in other physical therapy
- More than 50 units of Botox in the lower extremity or Botox above the knee if wearing an ankle-foot orthosis within the past 3 months
