Evaluating High-Power Laser Therapy as an Additional Treatment for Long-Term Nerve Pain in Notalgia Paresthetica

Notalgia Paresthetica NP is a chronic sensory nerve condition causing itching, burning pain, and skin discoloration on the back near the shoulder blades. This condition results from nerve compression in the thoracic spine and often affects sleep and daily life. Current treatments include creams, medications, and injections, but many patients find them unsatisfactory. This trial evaluates High-Power Laser Therapy HPLT as an additional treatment to standard care for reducing symptoms and improving quality of life in NP patients. The study involves two groups one receiving active High-Power Laser Therapy and the other receiving a sham laser procedure without therapeutic energy. The HPLT uses a 1064 nm wavelength laser at 10 watts applied over the affected back muscles and skin area for 10 minutes per session, three times per week, for four weeks total 12 sessions. The sham group undergoes the same procedure without active laser energy to maintain blinding. Participants will be assessed for pain and itching levels at the start, after three weeks, and at three months using validated scales. Researchers will also monitor quality of life and skin changes. The study is randomized and assessor-blinded to compare the effects of HPLT versus sham treatment. Participation lasts about three months, including treatment and follow-up assessments to evaluate symptom changes and safety.
