What this Trial Is About

The trial focuses on patients with intermittent claudication caused by peripheral arterial disease (PAD), which limits walking ability due to leg pain. Walking rehabilitation is the primary recommended treatment to improve walking distance and quality of life. However, supervised rehabilitation programs are often hard to access, leading patients to rely on self-motivation without specialized support. This study explores a new digital health approach using a smartphone app to assist with home-based exercise and remote monitoring. Participants will be divided into two groups: one using the E-REVAae smartphone app designed to support self-rehabilitation by tracking walking activity, pain onset, recovery time, and other parameters; the other group will not use the app. The app provides patients with performance statistics and allows doctors to remotely monitor progress and offer personalized advice through a secure website. This randomized, single-center study evaluates this innovative approach alongside usual care. Participants will be assessed for walking ability using treadmill tests at 3 and 12 months to measure maximal walking distance. The study includes questionnaires on walking and quality of life. Patients will be monitored for symptoms, walking distance, and adherence to exercise recommendations. The smartphone app group will have continuous feedback and monitoring, while all participants will receive follow-up consultations to assess progress and safety throughout the study.
