Quality of Life Study in Adults With Head, Neck, Skull Base, and Brain Tumors Treated with Hadrontherapy

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the quality of life QoL in patients with solid tumors treated with hadrontherapy, a form of particle therapy that uses protons and carbon ions. This treatment is known to improve outcomes in tumors resistant to conventional radiotherapy. Since 2011, patients with various tumor types in the head, neck, skull base, and brain have been treated at CNAO, and this study aims to collect comprehensive QoL data through standardized questionnaires to better understand patient-reported outcomes in this setting. The study involves two patient groups, or cohorts Cohort A includes about 80 survivors with head and neck, skull base, or brain tumors who have at least five years of follow-up without progressive disease. Cohort B involves 100 patients diagnosed with head and neck tumors who are about to begin curative hadrontherapy. Participants will complete specific standardized questionnaires tailored to their tumor type and treatment status, covering quality of life, psychological, socio-cognitive, and resilience factors. Participants will be asked to fill out these questionnaires at defined time points, including before treatment, after treatment completion, and during long-term follow-up up to five years. The researchers will investigate the relationship between quality of life and socio-psychological variables over time. This observational study does not involve any active treatment assignment but focuses on gathering patient-reported data to understand the long-term impact of hadrontherapy on quality of life.
