Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Participants must be between 18 and 65 years old
- Participants must be free of significant underlying medical problems based on medical history, physical exam, and normal resting electrocardiogram
- Non-burned participants must not have had a serious burn injury requiring more than one night in the hospital
- Participants with moderate burns must have burns covering 20-40% of body surface area with at least 50% full-thickness burns requiring skin grafts
- Participants with large burns must have burns covering more than 40% of body surface area with at least 50% full-thickness burns requiring skin grafts
You will not qualify if you...
- Known heart disease or other chronic medical conditions requiring regular medical therapy including cancer, diabetes, neurological diseases, uncontrolled hypertension, or lung disease
- Serious abnormalities detected on routine screening
- Current smokers and individuals who regularly smoked within the past 3 years
- Body mass index (BMI) of 31 kg/m2 or higher
