What this Trial Is About

This research aims to explore the relationship between blood and urine biomarkers, including genetic variants, and the long-term progression of kidney disease in Chinese patients with IgA nephropathy who have relatively normal kidney function. IgA nephropathy is a common cause of kidney disease leading to end-stage renal disease in China, with highly variable outcomes among individuals. The study seeks to integrate genetic and biomarker information to better predict disease progression. The study is observational and involves 2000 patients diagnosed with primary IgA nephropathy confirmed by biopsy. There is no intervention or treatment administered as part of this trial. Participants have had their first kidney biopsy within the last 3 years and maintain an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 60 ml/min/1.73 m2 or higher. Participants will be followed over a period of up to 120 months to monitor kidney function changes and disease progression. Researchers will measure key outcomes such as doubling of serum creatinine, progression to end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis or transplantation, and death. Secondary outcomes include remission of proteinuria. Data collection involves reviewing biopsy samples and monitoring clinical markers over time to understand disease trajectories.
