What this Trial Is About
Obesity is a major global health concern characterized by excessive body fat accumulation that increases health risks. It is defined by a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher and is becoming more common worldwide due to factors like sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets, and genetics. This study focuses on overweight and obese young women to evaluate the immediate effects of whole-body vibration on cardiovascular response and functional capacity. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups. The study group receives a single session of whole-body vibration using the Power Plate device set at 30 Hz frequency and 2 mm amplitude. The control group undergoes a sham procedure where they stand on the same device without vibrations, isolating the effects of vibration from other factors like standing posture and duration. During the study, researchers measure outcomes including brachial blood pressure, heart rate, and arterial oxygen saturation, as well as performance on the 6-minute walk test and perceived exertion using the Borg scale. These assessments occur on the same day as the intervention. The study includes female participants aged 18 to 25 with BMI between 25 and 40 kg/m2 who are sedentary and normotensive. The total participation duration is brief, focused on immediate responses to the intervention.
