Study on How Cannabis Use Affects Hospital Stay and Short-term Outcomes in Patients Hospitalized for Psychotic Symptoms

Researchers are evaluating how cannabis use affects the hospitalization and short- and medium-term outcomes of patients with psychotic symptoms. This observational study aims to compare patients with psychotic symptoms who use cannabis to those who do not, focusing on hospitalization duration, risk of resistance to usual therapies, therapeutic alliance, relapse frequency, symptom severity, and behaviors such as impulsivity and aggression. The study is sponsored by the Centre hospitalier de Ville-Evrard, France. Participants hospitalized for psychiatric reasons and presenting psychotic symptoms, with or without protective measures, are observed for how cannabis consumption may influence their hospital stay and short-term prognosis. The study does not involve any experimental treatments but collects clinical data and assessments during hospitalization and after discharge to understand these impacts. During the study, participants undergo evaluations using various scales including the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale PANSS, Marijuana Craving Questionnaire-Short Form MCQ-SF, Clinical Global Impression CGI, Montgomery sberg Depression Rating Scale MADRS, Psychotic Depression Scale PDS, Young Mania Rating Scale YMRS, Self-Consciousness Revised Scale CDS, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire CTQ, and Big Five Inventory BFI. These assessments are performed at the beginning of the study, at discharge, and one and three months after discharge to monitor symptoms, craving, mood, and behavior over time. The study spans several months to track participant progress and hospital outcomes.
