Study to Assess the Effect of an HPV Prevention Program on Vaccination Rates in Adolescents Aged 11 to 17 in the Auvergne Rhne-Alpes Region

Human papillomaviruses HPV are common contagious viruses, with about 70% of men and women expected to be infected during their lifetime. Despite vaccination recommendations since 2007 for girls and since 2021 for young people aged 11 to 14, vaccination rates remain low, especially in the Auvergne Rhne Alpes region. This regional study aims to evaluate the effect of a primary prevention program on increasing HPV vaccination rates among adolescents aged 11 to 17. The study compares two groups one receiving no intervention and the other receiving an HPV primary prevention intervention. The intervention includes a one-week interactive exhibition titled Taking care of yourself and preventing cancer risks, a classroom presentation on HPV delivered by a healthcare team, and distribution of prevention materials. The presentation features key information about HPV, its transmission, affected groups, possible consequences, and protection methods, including interactive discussions and games. Participants will be assessed at the start and six months later for HPV vaccination status, health literacy, and knowledge about HPV and cancer risks. Acceptability of the intervention is evaluated at the end of the one-week program. The study involves students and teachers at public middle and high schools, with follow-up over six months to monitor vaccination uptake and related knowledge improvements.
