What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the Body Project, an eating disorder prevention program designed for girls and young women aged 15 to 22 years old in Nova Scotia. This study aims to determine if the program can be successfully delivered to youth by assessing its acceptability, demand, integration by facilitators, and effectiveness in reducing eating disorder risk factors. The Body Project will be delivered in groups of 6 to 10 participants by peer mentors, using two formats: a 6-session in-person version for high school students, consisting of weekly 45-minute sessions, and a 2-session weekly 2-hour version for university students and virtual groups. Participants will be divided into four cohorts based on age and delivery method, with both versions covering similar content guided by a scripted manual. Participants will attend the group sessions totaling 4 to 4.5 hours, complete questionnaires before their first session and after their last session, and join a focus group with their session members after completing the program. Researchers will measure acceptability through focus groups, dropout rates, and satisfaction questionnaires, along with demand through recruitment rates, and effectiveness by assessing changes in thin-ideal internalization, body dissatisfaction, negative affect, and disordered eating behaviors. The study is expected to conclude in September 2026.
