Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- At least 18 years old
- History of unilateral transfemoral lower limb amputation
- At least two years post lower limb amputation
- Able to walk independently without aids such as a cane
- Able to walk continuously for at least 10 minutes without stopping
- Residual limb has no open wounds and is safe
- Prosthetic limb materials are safe and suitable for study mobility requirements
You will not qualify if you...
- Younger than 18 years old
- Unable to give informed consent
- Neurological disorders affecting walking
- Significant metal implants (more than one orthopedic screw) in residual or intact limb
- Starting or changing medications that affect walking, balance, or cardiovascular function during the study
- Currently pregnant or planning pregnancy during the study
- Conditions where fatiguing or resisted leg contractions are unsafe
- Blood clots in the leg or conditions where thigh compression or ischemia is unsafe
- History of uncontrolled high blood pressure
- History of heart failure
- Head injury within the past 6 months
- Seizure disorder
- History of vascular disease
- History of thrombosis
- History of sickle cell trait
- History of genetic diseases
