Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Men and women, age 18-45
- Treatment-seeking individuals diagnosed with primary social anxiety disorder or body dysmorphic disorder
- Fluent in English and willing to provide informed consent
- For control group: no current or past psychiatric disorders
- For control group: low anxiety (GAD-7 score <8) and depression (PHQ-9 score <10)
You will not qualify if you...
- WRAT5 Word Reading Subtest score below 80
- Any contraindications for MRI such as pacemakers, certain metal implants, pregnancy, or claustrophobia
- Active suicidal or homicidal thoughts or need for higher level care
- History of manic or hypomanic episodes, psychotic symptoms, brain injury, neurological disorder, pervasive developmental disorder, or ADHD
- Active alcohol or substance use disorder in past 6 months
- Current use of psychotropic medications except stable-dose antidepressants for 3 months
- Previous non-response to CBT or current CBT treatment
