Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Must be between the ages of 18-70 years old.
- Abstain from exercise and caffeine for 12 hours before the experiment.
- Abstain from alcohol for 24 hours before the experiment.
- Body mass index (BMI) must be less than 30 kg/m2.
- Menstruating women will be tested during their early follicular or low hormone phase.
- Post-menopausal women (more than 5 years) with intact uterus and at least one ovary are included.
- Use of hormonal replacement therapy is allowed.
You will not qualify if you...
- Circadian rhythm sleep disorders.
- High obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis by STOP-BANG.
- History of major psychiatric disorder diagnosed by DSM-V criteria.
- Unstable or serious medical conditions like heart failure, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease.
- Current or recent (past month) use of psychoactive, hypnotic, stimulant, analgesic medications (except occasional non-narcotic analgesics), beta blockers, or alpha blockers.
- Shift work or irregular sleep schedules.
- Habitual smoking of six or more cigarettes per week.
- Habitual alcohol consumption of more than two drinks per day.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
