Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Patients scheduled to undergo mitral valve surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass
  • Estimated mean pulmonary artery pressure of 55 mmHg or higher measured by preoperative Doppler echocardiography
  • Adults aged 18 years or older
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Surgery without cardiopulmonary bypass
  • Preoperative hemodynamic instability requiring vasoactive support or mechanical device
  • Severe left ventricular dysfunction with ejection fraction less than 30%
  • Presence of congenital heart disease
  • Contraindication to transesophageal echocardiography
  • Emergency surgery or repeat surgeries
  • Severe kidney or liver disease
  • Coagulopathy or thromboembolic disease treated with anticoagulants
