Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Body mass index 30 - 40 kg/m2
You will not qualify if you...
- Not weight stable (less than 5% change in body mass over the past six months)
- Overt cardiovascular, neurological, renal, liver, and/or metabolic illness such as diabetes mellitus
- Current or history of uncontrolled Stage 2 hypertension (blood pressure above 140 / 90 mmHg; anti-hypertensive medications are permitted)
- Diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea
- Previous bariatric surgery
- Diagnosis or signs of overt airway disease(s)
- Current or recent (regular use within the past 6 months) use of tobacco or nicotine products such as cigarettes or vaping
- Pregnant, lactating, or post-menopausal females (self-reported and confirmed as applicable)
- Prisoners
- Recent abdominal surgery or abdominal hernia
- Asthma patients with very low symptom perception and frequent, severe exacerbations or abnormally low perception of dyspnea
- Ruptured eardrum or other ear conditions
- Marked elevated left ventricular end-diastolic volume and pressure
- Worsening heart failure signs and symptoms after training
- Current cold, sinusitis, or respiratory tract infection advised not to use the device
