Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 18 years or older
- Smokes 5 or more cigarettes per day
- Interested in receiving both smoking and financial counseling
- Household income below 200% of the current federal poverty level
- Resident of New York City
- Speaks English or Spanish
- Able to provide informed consent
- Does not have a representative managing their finances
You will not qualify if you...
- Know a current or past study participant
- Medical reasons preventing use of nicotine replacement therapy, including:
- Allergy to nicotine patches
- Pregnancy or plans to become pregnant within 12 months
- Breastfeeding
- Heart attack within the past 2 months
- Underlying irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
- Ongoing or worsening chest pain (angina)
