What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the integration of HIV prevention methods with tuberculosis (TB) household contact investigations in Uganda. This study compares home-based HIV self-testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) initiation to the standard approach of referring participants to clinics for PrEP initiation. It also includes qualitative and economic evaluations to understand how well this strategy works and its financial sustainability. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups: one receives home-based HIV self-testing and PrEP initiation during routine TB household visits, and the other group is referred to health facilities for HIV testing and PrEP initiation under modified standard care. This approach is incorporated into the existing TB household contact investigation process. Participants aged 15 years and older from households with at least two people, where someone has pulmonary TB, will be involved. Researchers will measure how many start PrEP within one month and how many continue it over six months. They will also track HIV testing coverage during this period. The study includes follow-up visits up to six months to monitor these outcomes and assess the intervention's impact.
