Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 60 years or older for Cohort 1
- Age 60 years or younger for Cohort 2
- Expected hospital stay of at least 2 days after surgery under general or neuraxial anesthesia
- Written informed consent given before surgery
You will not qualify if you...
- Contraindication to EEG
- Unable or unwilling to attend follow-up appointments
- History of dementia
- Unable to provide consent as determined by surgical team
- Living in a nursing home
- Undergoing intracranial surgery
- Unable to complete neurocognitive tests due to language, vision, or hearing problems
- Unable to communicate with research staff due to language barriers
- For MRI portion: Contraindications to MRI such as unsafe implanted devices, claustrophobia, or inability to lie still
