The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate whether a lung ultrasonography (LUS)-guided decongestion strategy in adults hospitalized for acute heart failure (AHF) can improve patient-centered outcomes. Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- 18 years old or older
- Planned or actual admission to intermediate care units, general internal medical, or cardiology wards
- Diagnosis of congestive acute heart failure on admission (primary or secondary diagnosis)
- Raised N terminal-pro-brain natriuretic peptide value (≥1000 ng/l)
You will not qualify if you...
- Known isolated right heart failure
- Systolic blood pressure below 90 mmHg or mean arterial pressure below 65 mmHg at inclusion
- Known lung conditions mimicking cardiogenic edema on lung ultrasonography, including interstitial lung disease, lung cancer or metastasis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, pulmonary contusion
- Confirmed SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia within the last 3 months
- Unwillingness to give consent
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Hospitalization for palliative care with expected end of life within 30 days
