What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the iParent2Parent (iP2P) program, a new virtual mentorship program designed to connect parents of pediatric solid organ transplant recipients with trained parent mentors. The study aims to reduce feelings of isolation, improve mental health, and positively impact the long-term health of these patients. This research also explores how eHealth technologies can enhance access to and acceptance of parent peer support interventions. The iParent2Parent program matches parents one-to-one with other parents who have experience with pediatric solid organ transplants. Participants are randomized into either the iP2P program group or a standard care waitlist control group. The program uses online peer support delivered through devices capable of running WhatsApp software. The study includes both mentors, who are experienced parents selected by healthcare teams, and mentees who are parents of more recently transplanted children. Participants will be monitored for about one year, during which recruitment, withdrawal, adherence, acceptability, engagement, barriers, and enablers of the program will be measured. Researchers will also assess parenting stress, psychological distress, social support, coping, and family functioning. Data collection includes baseline measures and follow-ups immediately after the intervention and at program completion. This comprehensive monitoring helps evaluate the program's impact on participants' well-being and support network.
