Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 18 years or older
- Wound repair within 18 hours of injury
- Repair performed by an emergency room physician or trainee
- Clean and simple lacerations with no gross contamination as assessed by the treating physician
You will not qualify if you...
- Pregnant patients
- Lacerations involving tendons, muscles, fascias, or joints
- Lacerations located on the ear, nose, or distal to metacarpophalangeal or metatarsophalangeal joints
- Immunosuppressed individuals (neutropenia, chronic corticosteroid use, HIV, or immunosuppressive therapy within 3 months)
- Bite wounds
- Lacerations with any tissue loss
- Lacerations containing foreign bodies
- Complex lacerations such as crush or stellate wounds
- Grossly contaminated lacerations
