What this Trial Is About

Transversus Abdominis Plane (TAP) block is commonly used to control pain in laparoscopic procedures. It is usually administered with ultrasound guide but it can be also administered with laparoscopic assistance under direct visualization. Aim of the present study is determining if the lap-assisted TAP is superior to the us-guided TAP Block in pain control in the immediate postoperative phase as well at 1 and 6 hours post surgery.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Age 18 years or younger
  • Undergoing elective or urgent laparoscopic surgeries such as hernia repair, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, pyloromyotomy, Nissen fundoplication, or varicocelectomy
  • Classified as ASA Status I or II (healthy or mild systemic disease)
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • No parental consent provided
  • ASA Status III to VI (severe systemic disease or worse)
  • Neurological disability affecting spontaneous mobility
  • Previous abdominal wall surgery such as gastroschisis repair
  • Expected surgery lasting more than 4 hours
  • Conversion from laparoscopic surgery to open surgery (laparotomy)
  • Use of other regional anesthesia methods like neuraxial or peripheral blocks
