What this Trial Is About
This study is designed for patients requiring surgery for Crohn's disease of the terminal ileum. A combination of laparoscopic segmental right colectomy with extended mesenteric excision and the Kono-s anastomosis will be utilized. Since this is a fairly new technique, the intra and post operative complications will be reviewed. Also endoscopic, clinical and surgical reoccurrence will be reviewed at certain predefined time points post operatively.

Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Males and females aged >16 years
- Ileocolic disease or disease of the terminal ileum requiring surgical resection
- Current treatment with corticosteroids, 5-ASA drugs, thiopurines, MTX, antibiotics, or anti-TNF therapy allowed
- Must have undergone colonoscopy and recent imaging such as ultrasound or MR enterography (or CT enterography if MR is contraindicated)
- Ability to comply with study protocol
- Competent and able to provide written informed consent
You will not qualify if you...
- Unable to give informed consent
- Under 16 years of age
- Significant medical conditions within 6 months before surgery (e.g., heart attack, active angina, heart failure) that may risk patient safety
- History of cancer within the past 5 years affecting prognosis
- Emergency surgery
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Unable to attend follow-up visits at 3, 6, and 12 months for assessments, imaging, and endoscopy
