Large Prospective Study on Environmental and Lifestyle Effects on Infertility and Assisted Reproductive Technology Success

Researchers are investigating the reasons why assisted reproductive technology ART sometimes fails in infertile patients in Hunan Province. The study aims to understand how environmental exposures, such as pollutants linked to plastic products, along with lifestyle and social factors, impact the success rate of ART. This large-scale, prospective cohort study plans to enroll 5,000 infertile patients, equally divided between men and women, to explore these influences and improve ART outcomes. Participants will be observed over time to collect detailed information on their sociodemographic background, health status, lifestyle habits, and environmental exposures. The study focuses on environmental factors including air pollutants, living conditions near industrial areas, and personal care product use. Behavioral factors such as diet, daily routines, work environment, and exposure to toxins will also be assessed. Researchers will analyze these data to develop a risk prediction model aimed at identifying causes of ART failure and improving success rates. Throughout the study, participants will be followed from embryo transfer until delivery or ART treatment failure, up to 42 weeks post-transfer. Outcomes measured include live birth rates, clinical pregnancy, miscarriage, preterm birth, low birth weight, and congenital anomalies. The study includes long-term follow-up and uses multivariate analysis to explore the associations between exposures and ART outcomes, providing valuable data to guide clinical decisions and public health policies.
