What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating two training methods to improve basic life support (BLS) knowledge and skills among schoolchildren aged 5 to 13 years. This trial aims to determine which approach is more effective at teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to children and adolescents in a school setting. The study is motivated by the high impact of out-of-hospital cardiorespiratory arrest and the need to increase the number of first responders trained in CPR. One group receives a 2-hour hands-on session led by nursing professionals, including practice with mannequins and instruction on using a semi-automatic defibrillator. The other group watches a short educational video and uses a puzzle to learn the CPR sequence, but without mannequin practice. Both interventions are adapted to the children's ages and delivered within their schools. Participants will be assessed on their theoretical knowledge, practical CPR skills, and quality of CPR immediately before and after the intervention and again at an 8-month follow-up. The study also considers factors like physical condition and demographics. The total involvement includes these training sessions and evaluations, with no masking or placebo controls involved.
