Local Control, Quality of Life and Toxicities in Adults With Benign or Indolent Brain Tumors Undergoing Proton Radiation Therapy
Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Biopsy-proven benign or malignant brain tumor requiring tumor or tumor bed irradiation, including low-grade or favorable high-grade glioma, pituitary adenoma, vestibular schwannoma, meningioma, or other appropriate tumors
- Diagnosis based on imaging and clinical characteristics allowed if radiation therapy without biopsy is standard care
- Medically indicated for proton radiation therapy
- Age 18 years or older
- Karnofsky performance status of 60 or higher
- Any extent of prior surgery and/or chemotherapy allowed
- Able to speak and understand English
- Willing and able to sign informed consent
- Women of child-bearing potential and men must agree to use adequate contraception prior to, during, and for 4 months after proton therapy
- Life expectancy of at least 6 months
You will not qualify if you...
- Uncontrolled illness including active infection, symptomatic congestive heart failure, unstable angina, cardiac arrhythmia, or psychiatric/social conditions limiting compliance
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- History of other malignancies unless disease-free for at least 3 years and low risk for recurrence
- Exceptions for recent cervical cancer in situ, basal cell, or squamous cell skin cancer diagnosed and treated within past 3 years
