Researchers are examining real-world prescription data from Australia to understand treatment patterns among adult men with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC), a type of prostate cancer that has spread but still responds to hormone therapy. The study focuses on how Androgen Receptor Pathway Inhibitors (ARPIs) such as darolutamide, enzalutamide, apalutamide, and abiraterone are used, often alongside standard Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT). It aims to describe patient characteristics and treatment outcomes using data from two de-identified Australian prescription databases collected between December 2022 and June 2025. This retrospective observational study analyzes prescription records to identify the proportion of patients receiving doublet therapy (ARPI plus ADT) or triplet therapy (ARPI, ADT, and docetaxel chemotherapy). It also tracks adherence to ARPI treatments and any changes in medication doses over time. Since it uses existing anonymized data, there is no direct patient contact or need for individual consent. Participants are involved only through the use of their anonymized prescription records in two large databases. The study measures include the number and percentage of patients using each ARPI and the demographic characteristics of men with mHSPC. The analysis covers data from at least 12 months before treatment initiation and at least 3 to 6 months after. Findings will provide real-world insights to help improve clinical care for men with this form of prostate cancer in Australia.
