Researchers are conducting a multi-country, multi-center study to evaluate the Mobile Research App as a tool for measuring and validating speech perception in adults who use cochlear implants. This feasibility study focuses on how well the app can assess speech understanding outside traditional clinical settings, aiming to confirm its reliability compared to standard methods. The participants are adults with hearing loss who use hearing devices such as hearing aids or cochlear implants and are fluent in the language used for testing. The study compares two methods of delivering speech perception tests. One method uses the Mobile Research App, which streams speech material via Bluetooth from an iOS device directly to the cochlear implant sound processor, allowing testing outside the classic sound booth environment, including at home. The other method involves the standard delivery of speech perception tests within a sound booth in a clinic. Participants listen to the speech material and respond through the app or during the clinic test sessions. Participants are assessed immediately after screening with tests measuring the percent of correct responses in speech perception tasks conducted twice. The study involves repeated measures to compare performance between the app-based and standard testing. Participants provide informed consent and complete evaluations in both clinical and non-clinical environments, with monitoring to ensure adherence. Safety and ability to comply with study procedures are also observed throughout the study period.
