Slow-transit constipation STC is a subtype of chronic constipation characterized by rare bowel movements, straining, and abdominal discomfort, often worsening over time and reducing quality of life. While lubiprostone has proven effective for other constipation types, evidence for its use in STC is limited. This trial evaluates lubiprostones safety and effectiveness specifically for people with STC to improve treatment options. Participants will receive either lubiprostone capsules taken orally twice daily at a dose of 24 micrograms with meals or polyethylene glycol PEG, a common laxative, taken as a dissolved powder twice daily. Both treatments last for 4 weeks. Medication use and adherence will be tracked through diaries and pill counts. This trial is randomized and compares the effects of these two treatments on bowel habits. During the study, participants will keep diaries recording bowel movements and complete questionnaires about symptoms and quality of life. Researchers will monitor changes in spontaneous bowel movements, stool form, straining, and patient satisfaction over 4 weeks. Safety is also assessed by tracking adverse reactions like nausea or abdominal pain. Overall participation lasts about 6 weeks including screening and follow-up assessments.
