Researchers are evaluating ways to improve the use of antenatal care services among pregnant women in rural C f4te d'Ivoire, where many do not receive all recommended care despite increased availability of maternal health services. The study focuses on addressing barriers related to the cost and planning of these services, especially since men often control household finances but may lack information about pregnancy-related costs. The trial tests both supply-side and demand-side approaches to increase uptake of essential antenatal care. The study will provide key antenatal services such as ultrasounds, laboratory tests, and iron and folic acid supplements for free to pregnant women, aligning with the national free maternity care policy. On the demand side, participants will receive information about antenatal care recommendations through videos shown to pregnant women alone or together with their partners. Additionally, some will participate in financial planning sessions to help prepare for healthcare and transportation costs during pregnancy. Pregnant women in the study may also receive vouchers for specific antenatal services redeemable at local health facilities. Participants will be assessed during pregnancy and about 4 to 8 weeks after delivery to measure how many women receive the recommended antenatal care services. The study team will monitor service uptake, including ultrasounds, lab tests, and supplement adherence. Researchers will also evaluate the effectiveness of the information and financial planning interventions in improving service use. The study involves pregnant women aged 15 and older living in the Taabo area and may include their male partners if applicable.
