Healthy Volunteer
Researchers are investigating differences in self-recognition and the ability to distinguish between oneself and others in individuals with psychological vulnerability compared to healthy volunteers. The study focuses on participants aged 15 to 25 years who meet criteria for high risk of psychosis or schizophrenia or are healthy matched volunteers. The aim is to explore possible links between self/other distinction abilities and psychological symptoms using a novel device and psychological assessment. Participants will be tested using the double mirror device called ALTER-EGO, which is a special mirror surrounded by adjustable lights. This device creates gradual morphs between the participant's face and another person's face by changing light intensity, and participants indicate when they see more of one face than the other. Additionally, participants will complete the EASE test, which screens for high risk of psychosis or schizophrenia. During the study, participants will sit on opposite sides of the ALTER-EGO mirror while the light intensity alternates to create different face morphs. At each step, they answer who they see more clearly. Researchers will compare results between psychologically vulnerable subjects and healthy controls. The study also monitors safety by excluding participants with epilepsy, migraine, or claustrophobia. Participation includes signing consent forms and may involve parents for minors.
