Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common digestive disorder causing symptoms like post-meal fullness, early feeling of fullness, pain, or burning in the upper abdomen without any structural or metabolic cause. It affects quality of life and has limited treatment options since usual medications such as proton pump inhibitors have modest effects and possible side effects long term. Emerging research suggests the gut microbiota may influence FD, and probiotics combined with ginger extract could help relieve symptoms and improve digestive function. This trial evaluates a dietary supplement containing probiotic strains Bacillus coagulans MY01 and Bacillus subtilis MY02 along with ginger root extract standardized to 20% gingerols, taken as one capsule daily for 8 weeks. The study is conducted in multiple centers in France with 198 adults diagnosed with FD based on Rome IV criteria and normal endoscopy. Participants will have two in-person visits at the start and after 8 weeks, plus a telephone follow-up at day 28. During the study, researchers will assess changes in gastrointestinal symptoms using the PAGI-SYM questionnaire, quality of life, treatment adherence, use of other medications, and global impressions of change from both patients and physicians. Psychological impact will be explored with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Safety and tolerability will be monitored through adverse event reports. The study aims to provide evidence on the potential benefits of this probiotic and ginger combination as a non-drug approach to improve symptoms and quality of life in FD patients.
