Researchers are evaluating the accuracy and reliability of the 6-minute stepper test in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or interstitial lung disease (ILD). This study aims to compare the stepper test to the 6-minute walk test and a maximal cardiopulmonary cycling test. It also investigates whether the stepper test results are consistent when monitored directly by a therapist in person versus remotely via videoconferencing, and whether the test is safe to perform at home under these monitoring conditions. Participants will perform several trials of the 6-minute stepper test on separate days, one trial of the 6-minute walk test, and one maximal cardiopulmonary test on a cycle ergometer. The study includes both direct and remote monitoring setups to assess the test's validity and safety in different settings. Additionally, participants will join a semi-structured interview to share their feedback about the 6-minute stepper test. During the study, participants will attend two 3-hour laboratory visits separated by 6 to 18 days for concurrent validity, association strength, and agreement assessments. Test-retest reliability will be evaluated in follow-up visits spaced 2 to 5 days apart. Researchers will monitor clinical stability, analyze peak cardiorespiratory and symptom values, and collect feedback through interviews to understand the test's performance and safety in home-based settings.
