This research aims to study the epidemiology of invasive bacterial diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae pneumococcus, Neisseria meningitidis meningococcus, and Haemophilus influenzae hemophilus. These infections can cause severe illness and serious complications. The study focuses on monitoring these infections to guide public health efforts, evaluate vaccine impacts, and plan prevention and treatment strategies by identifying circulating strains and assessing vaccine failures. The study uses molecular diagnostic testing to identify these bacteria from blood samples, even when traditional culture methods may fail due to prior antibiotic use or sample handling issues. Pediatric and adult patients diagnosed with invasive bacterial diseases caused by these pathogens are included. This approach enables more accurate detection and characterization of the bacteria. Participants diagnosed with these invasive bacterial infections will have their samples analyzed using molecular methods. Researchers will monitor the incidence rates of these infections in children, the distribution of bacterial types, and the proportion of cases preventable by vaccination. The study will also assess vaccine failure rates. The average study duration for outcome measurement is about one year, supporting improved surveillance and public health interventions.

Researchers are evaluating the EuroHeart program, an observational and prospective multicenter initiative designed to improve quality of care for patients with common cardiovascular diseases such as Acute Coronary Syndrome ACS, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. EuroHeart collects standardized and harmonized patient data to support continuous quality improvement by monitoring adherence to quality indicators defined by the European Society of Cardiology ESC. The program aims to understand how well proven treatments are applied in everyday clinical practice. The study involves continuous data collection from consecutive patients hospitalized or treated for these cardiovascular conditions. Participants enter a 12-month follow-up period during which clinical events and health status data are gathered. This registry specifically evaluates adherence to ESC quality indicators in Italian clinical practice, including measures such as time to reperfusion and prescription of recommended medications at discharge. Participants will be monitored through regular collection of clinical data over the 12 months following enrollment. Researchers will assess adherence to multiple ESC quality indicators related to treatment and management of STEMI and NSTEMI patients, including evaluations of left ventricular function, lipid levels, and use of dual antiplatelet therapy and other medications. The study also tracks cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular events during follow-up to support quality improvement efforts. Participation involves consent and data collection without experimental treatments.

Researchers are examining the effect of abelacimab compared to a placebo in patients with atrial fibrillation AF who are considered unsuitable for oral anticoagulation therapy. This Phase 3 study focuses on high-risk patients with AF to evaluate whether abelacimab can reduce the occurrence of ischemic stroke or systemic embolism. The study is led by Anthos Therapeutics, Inc. and aims to address treatment options in patients where traditional anticoagulation is deemed inappropriate. Participants are randomly assigned in equal numbers to receive either abelacimab 150 mg or a matching placebo by subcutaneous injection once a month. The study consists of three periods a screening period lasting up to 60 days, a double-blind treatment period that continues until at least 111 patients experience a primary endpoint event, and an end-of-treatment visit. Following this, participants may enter a 30-day follow-up or an optional open-label extension to receive abelacimab, depending on eligibility and regulatory approval. During the study, participants undergo assessments to monitor stroke, systemic embolism, and bleeding events, with the primary outcomes measured up to 30 months. Safety is tracked by recording bleeding events classified by the Bleeding Academic Research Consortium. Secondary outcomes include cardiovascular and all-cause mortality and other thrombotic events. The study also involves regular monitoring and follow-up visits to assess efficacy and safety throughout the treatment and observation periods.
