Actively Recruiting

Researchers are evaluating the 'Hope Groups' program, a psychosocial, mental health, parenting strengthening, and violence prevention support group designed for Palestinian caregivers displaced by war. This trial is a two-armed pragmatic randomized controlled study conducted mainly in Amman, Jordan, involving 490 participants across five waves with a randomized roll-out design. The study also plans a small pilot in the West Bank with 55 families to assess if the program's effects are similar in that region. The study aims to rigorously evaluate the intervention while delivering support to all participants over time. Participants are divided into intervention and wait-list control groups within each wave. The Hope Groups intervention consists of 10 sessions delivered to small groups of 8-12 parents or caregivers. Participants in the intervention group receive immediate access to the program, while control participants wait for later access. The five waves vary in size from 70 to 120 participants per wave. The design allows long-term follow-up comparisons among treated participants from earlier waves and untreated participants from later waves. The West Bank pilot will randomize families similarly but is smaller and may occur on a different timeline. All participants complete surveys measuring violence against children and mental health at baseline and 6 weeks after completing the 10-session intervention. Participants in Waves 1-3 also complete follow-up surveys at 6 and 12 months post-baseline. Data collection includes participant self-reports to assess the program's impact on parenting, mental health, and violence prevention. The study monitors participants over time to evaluate lasting effects and safety, with total participation duration depending on wave assignment and follow-up schedule.
