Researchers are evaluating the effects of stingless bee honey, known as Kelulut honey, in patients with juvenile open-angle glaucoma (JOAG). This Phase 4 randomized clinical trial aims to understand how daily consumption of Kelulut honey influences blood inflammation levels measured by serum Interleukin-6 (IL-6), retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, and dry eye symptoms in patients aged 15 to 40 years who are compliant with conventional glaucoma treatment. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups based on their treatment center: one group will consume 30 grams of Kelulut honey daily for three months using prepackaged sachets, while the control group will continue standard glaucoma care without honey. Compliance with honey intake will be tracked through a daily printed diary and return of used sachets. Participants allergic to honey will be instructed to stop consumption and seek medical care immediately. During the study, participants will undergo blood tests to measure serum IL-6 levels, along with eye examinations assessing retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and dry eye parameters using standardized methods before and after the 90-day intervention. Researchers will monitor adherence, evaluate changes in these measures, and assess safety throughout the trial period to better understand the potential role of Kelulut honey as a supplementary therapy for JOAG.
