Researchers are studying how body weight changes in men newly incarcerated in the Martinican jail, focusing on the period from admission to three months later. The study aims to understand whether incarceration is linked to weight gain or loss and to identify factors like physical activity, nutrition, and psychological state that may influence these changes. This is important because weight changes can signal health issues, and Martinique has higher rates of overweight and diabetes compared to the national average. Participants will undergo measurements of weight and other body data at jail admission and again three months later. At both times, they will complete guided questionnaires about their physical activity levels, nutritional intake, and psychological state before and during incarceration. Researchers will also collect information on socio-economic status, medical history, treatments, and tobacco use. The study includes only men aged 18 to 44 years newly admitted to the jail and who consent to participate. During the study, a research technician will interview participants in their living area to gather updated data and help complete questionnaires. Weight and body measurements will be taken at baseline and at the three-month follow-up. The main outcome measured is the change in weight between these two points. The study monitors physical, nutritional, and psychological factors alongside weight to better understand their relationships over the incarceration period.
