Actively Recruiting

Researchers are studying people with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis IPF or progressive pulmonary fibrosis PPF who have previously taken nerandomilast in another study. The aim is to assess how well patients tolerate long-term treatment with nerandomilast and to evaluate whether it improves lung function and delays worsening symptoms, hospital visits, or death. This open-label extension trial is sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim and focuses on treatment over an extended period. Participants take nerandomilast tablets for up to 1 year and 10 months while continuing their usual pulmonary fibrosis treatments. The study involves a single treatment group receiving the drug, and no placebo or comparison groups. Regular visits with doctors help monitor health and collect data during this extended treatment phase. Throughout the study, participants undergo regular lung function tests and health assessments to track any adverse events and changes in lung capacity. The main outcome measured is the occurrence of any adverse events for up to about 99 weeks. Secondary outcomes include changes in forced vital capacity and time to worsening of disease symptoms or hospitalization. The study includes ongoing safety monitoring with a total participation time of up to nearly two years.

Researchers are evaluating AZD8965 in a Phase IIb trial to study its safety, tolerability, and effectiveness in treating Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis IPF. The study compares three doses of AZD8965 to a placebo in participants with IPF, including those who are on stable doses of approved antifibrotic therapies such as nintedanib, pirfenidone, or nerandomilast, as well as those not taking antifibrotic treatment. The trial is randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, and parallel-group in design. Participants are assigned to one of four groups placebo, low dose AZD8965, medium dose AZD8965, or high dose AZD8965. The treatment lasts for 24 weeks, during which participants receive their assigned medication. The study includes approximately 360 participants across around 200 sites worldwide. Researchers aim to assess the clinical efficacy of AZD8965 by measuring changes in lung function and study the relationship between dose and outcomes. During the study, participants will undergo various assessments including lung function tests such as forced vital capacity FVC, monitoring for adverse events, and pharmacokinetic analyses of AZD8965. Safety and tolerability are monitored up to 25 weeks. Researchers will also track any serious adverse events and treatment discontinuations. The total participation time covers the 24-week treatment period with scheduled visits to assess the study outcomes and participant health.

Researchers are evaluating the medicine BI 3000202 for adults with systemic lupus erythematosus SLE, a condition involving immune system problems. The study is a phase 2 trial that tests different doses of BI 3000202 to find the best dose for people with moderate to severe SLE. Participants are randomly assigned to one of five groups, including four groups receiving different doses of the medicine and one group receiving a placebo, which looks like the medicine but has no active drug. Participants take their assigned tablets daily for one year while continuing their usual SLE treatments. The study groups include four different dose levels of BI 3000202 and a placebo group. During the study, participants regularly visit the study site for check-ups and monitoring. This careful schedule helps researchers watch for any effects or side effects of the treatment. Throughout the study, doctors assess participants health, monitor any unwanted effects, and compare outcomes between groups. The main measurement is whether participants achieve a response on the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Responder Index SRI-4 at week 32. Additional measurements include responses at week 52 and disease activity scores. Participants stay involved for a bit longer than one year, with regular visits to the study site for health checks and to ensure their well-being.

Researchers are evaluating a medicine called nerandomilast for adults with systemic sclerosis, a condition affecting the skin and internal organs. The study focuses on people with limited or diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis who have had symptoms for less than 7 years. The goal is to see if nerandomilast helps improve symptoms and slows disease progression while assessing how well the medicine is tolerated. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups one takes nerandomilast tablets, and the other takes placebo tablets that look identical but do not contain medicine. Tablets are taken twice daily. The study lasts from 1 to about 4 years, with regular visits to the study site and phone check-ins. During visits, participants have blood tests and assessments of skin thickening, lung function, and organ health to monitor changes and treatment effects. Throughout the study, doctors monitor participants overall health and any side effects. They regularly assess safety and tolerability of the treatment. The main outcome measured is the time to disease progression or death over up to 4 years. Other outcomes include changes in skin scores, lung capacity, physical function, and disease impact questionnaires. Participants health is closely followed during the study period.

Researchers are studying bronchiectasis in adults and adolescents aged 12 to under 18 who produce sputum and have experienced flare-ups. The trial aims to evaluate whether the medicine BI 1291583 can help reduce these flare-ups compared to a placebo. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either BI 1291583 or a placebo in a phase III, double-blind study. Participants take one tablet of either BI 1291583 or placebo once daily for up to 1 year and 6 months. The study includes two groups one receiving the active medication and the other receiving placebo tablets that look identical but contain no medicine. The study period lasts up to 1 year and 8 months, during which participants attend up to 10 site visits and receive about 13 phone calls. During the study, participants regularly record their bronchiectasis symptoms in a smartphone diary. Study doctors monitor participants health, note any flare-ups, and check for unwanted effects. Researchers compare the number of flare-ups between the two groups as the primary measure. Secondary measures include time to first flare-up, quality of life changes, lung function changes, and rates of severe flare-ups.
