Researchers are studying patients with confirmed dengue virus infection to identify clinical and laboratory factors that may increase the risk of hospitalization. The study also aims to understand how blood transfusions are used in real-world practice and to improve criteria for hospital admission based on observed predictors. This is a prospective observational study conducted over three years at a hospital in northern Mexico. Patients aged 5 years and older who have a confirmed dengue infection and present to the emergency department or outpatient clinic are followed from their initial visit until their illness resolves or they are discharged from the hospital. No experimental treatments are given patients receive standard medical care. Data collected include symptoms such as fever duration, bleeding, vomiting, abdominal pain, platelet counts, hematocrit levels, and transfusion records. Physicians make transfusion decisions independently, and the reasons for these decisions are recorded. Participants will be monitored through clinical evaluations and laboratory tests during their illness. Researchers will analyze this information to identify factors linked to hospitalization and transfusion needs within 10 to 14 days of symptom onset. The study will track the proportion of patients admitted to the hospital and those who receive blood transfusions. The total participation lasts from the first healthcare contact to clinical recovery or discharge, providing insights into dengue management and patient outcomes.
