Actively Recruiting

Researchers are studying patients with corneal ulcers, a condition where the outer layer of the cornea is damaged and infected, which can lead to serious complications like corneal perforation and vision loss. This research focuses on how sending SMS reminders might improve patients' follow-up visit attendance. The study is conducted at the Lumbini Eye Institute and Research Center in Western Nepal and aims to see if these digital reminders can help patients stick to their treatment plans and improve eye health outcomes in resource-limited settings. Patients who come for treatment on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and meet the study criteria will be divided into groups. Those who agree to participate will receive SMS reminders about their upcoming follow-up visits along with routine counseling during their first visit. The study compares this group to those who receive only routine counseling to see if the reminders increase follow-up compliance. Participants will be monitored for six months to track how well they attend scheduled follow-up visits. Researchers will collect information about appointment adherence and evaluate the overall effectiveness of the SMS reminder system. This study also considers the cost-effectiveness of using SMS reminders to support patients in completing their treatment and improving eye care services.
