Actively Recruiting

This research aims to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT) for adolescents aged 11 to 18 years who have Autism Spectrum Disorders and persistent difficulties with emotion regulation despite prior therapies. The study uses a mixed-methods approach including a randomized multiple-baseline single-case design, a qualitative study, and a cost-effectiveness analysis to better understand the therapy's impact and benefits. Participants will be randomly assigned to different baseline periods lasting from 2 to 6 weeks before starting the intervention. The intervention consists of 15 sessions of Equine Assisted Therapy conducted three times a week over 23 weeks, involving activities with or near horses but without riding. The design aims to increase internal validity and thoroughly assess the therapy's effects. During the study, researchers will monitor changes in emotion dysregulation using the Emotion Dysregulation Index (EDI) measured at multiple points. Participants' progress will be tracked through these repeated assessments. The study also includes qualitative interviews and cost-effectiveness evaluations to gather comprehensive information. Total participation involves baseline monitoring, therapy sessions, and follow-up assessments throughout the study period.
