Researchers are evaluating whether virtual reality (VR) exposure to the workplace can help flight cabin crew who are on sick leave due to mental health-related complaints return to work faster. This pilot randomized controlled trial compares usual care alone with usual care plus VR exposure. The study also examines if VR can improve self-confidence and positive thoughts about returning to work while reducing job anxiety. Participants are divided into two groups: one receives care as usual, involving guidance from an occupational physician and psychologist experienced with cabin crew, while the other group receives the same care plus a VR session. During the VR session, guided by a psychologist, participants are virtually exposed to their workplace using VR glasses, allowing the therapist to tailor the therapy based on their experience. Researchers collect data on return to work timing from occupational health records at 6 and 12 months after the study begins. They also gather information on participants' self-efficacy, thoughts about returning to work, and job anxiety through questionnaires completed at the start and 4 months later. The study tracks participants' progress and responses to the treatments over time to evaluate the impact of VR exposure.
