Narvik

This research aims to explore the effect of offering free dental treatment to individuals undergoing treatment for substance abuse at the University Hospital North Norways department of substance abuse treatment in Narvik. The study seeks to understand how many patients will attend and complete dental care when it is provided during their stay and whether combining dental treatment with substance abuse treatment affects their rehabilitation positively or negatively. Participants, approximately 50 people admitted for drug addiction treatment, will be offered free dental care as part of their overall treatment. This study is non-randomized and does not include a control group. All participants will receive dental treatment during their stay at the department. During the approximately 12-week study period, participants will receive dental services and be monitored to assess dental treatment completion and various aspects related to the dental care process. Researchers will also evaluate the probability and impact of dental treatment on the substance abuse treatment. The study includes no masking or blinding and will continue until the end of 2026.
