Researchers are evaluating the effects of a triple therapy inhaler combining budesonide, glycopyrronium, and formoterol fumarate BGF MDI 32014.49.6 g compared to a dual therapy inhaler with glycopyrronium and formoterol fumarate GFF MDI 14.49.6 g on heart and lung outcomes in adults with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease COPD who have a higher risk for heart and lung events. This Phase III study is randomized, double-blind, and conducted at multiple centers, focusing on participants with COPD and elevated cardiopulmonary risk. Participants will receive either the triple therapy inhaler or the dual therapy inhaler, both administered twice daily. The study compares these two inhalers over a period of up to three years, monitoring for serious cardiac or COPD events. The trial includes careful evaluation of various heart and lung-related health events during this period. During the study, participants will be closely monitored through regular visits, assessments, and tests to measure lung function, heart events, and COPD exacerbations. Researchers will track the time until the first severe cardiac or COPD event and evaluate other cardiovascular and respiratory outcomes over up to three years. Participants will also be assessed for their ability to properly use the inhaler and adherence to the study protocol throughout the trial.

Alopecia areata AA is a condition where the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing hair loss mainly on the head and face but possibly on other body parts. This research evaluates the safety, effectiveness, and tolerance of upadacitinib, an approved drug, in adolescents and adults with severe AA. The study is a Phase 3 randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial enrolling about 1500 participants worldwide. Participants are randomly assigned to one of three groups receiving different treatments two doses of upadacitinib or placebo. In initial periods, some may switch from placebo to upadacitinib based on their Severity of Alopecia Tool SALT score. Those completing early parts may enter an extension phase receiving upadacitinib for up to 108 weeks. Treatment involves taking oral tablets once daily for up to 160 weeks, with possible re-randomization at Weeks 24 and 52. Throughout the study, participants attend regular clinic visits for medical assessments, blood tests, side effect monitoring, and questionnaires to track treatment effects. Researchers measure hair loss improvement using SALT scores and record adverse events over approximately 164 weeks. Participants are followed for up to 30 days after their last dose for safety monitoring.

Researchers are evaluating the effects of switching from combustible cigarettes to a Tobacco Heating System THS in adults with COPD and chronic bronchitis. This randomized study aims to show clinical benefits in symptoms such as cough frequency and shortness of breath, as well as lung function and exercise ability measured by a six-minute walk test. The study focuses on how patients feel and function when switching to THS compared to continuing cigarette smoking. Participants are randomly assigned to either continue smoking cigarettes or switch to using the THS freely without flavor restrictions. The study lasts for 24 weeks, during which the participants use their assigned product as they wish. Researchers compare changes in symptoms, lung function, cough severity, and exposure to harmful substances between the two groups over this period. Throughout the 24 weeks, participants undergo various assessments including cough frequency monitoring, lung function tests, quality of life questionnaires related to cough, and measurements of nicotine and carbon monoxide exposure. These evaluations occur at multiple time points such as weeks 1, 4, 12, and 24. The study tracks symptom changes, respiratory function, and overall health status while ensuring safety monitoring and adherence, providing a comprehensive view of the effects of switching products for people with COPD.
