Researchers are investigating whether positional tests should be routinely performed on all elderly patients aged 65 years and older who visit primary care with symptoms such as acute, episodic, or chronic dizziness, vertigo, unsteadiness, imbalance, or an increased tendency to fall within the past year. The study focuses on identifying hidden cases of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) that may not show typical positional vertigo symptoms. The goal is to assess the benefits of clinical screening and initial treatment of BPPV in primary care to improve quality of life and reduce fall risk in the elderly. The study involves screening elderly patients in primary care settings to detect BPPV through positional tests, regardless of conventional presentation. Patients who test positive for BPPV will be followed up two weeks later to monitor outcomes. Those with negative results will have only the initial visit. No specific interventions or treatments are detailed beyond the diagnostic maneuvers and follow-up for positive cases. Participants will be assessed for dizziness, vertigo, imbalance, and fall history. Researchers will measure the overall prevalence of BPPV in this population and monitor improvements or changes after initial diagnosis. The study includes a follow-up visit for BPPV-positive patients two weeks after enrollment to evaluate the impact of screening and potential treatment. Safety and eligibility will be carefully monitored to avoid risks during diagnostic maneuvers.
