Researchers are investigating the effects of modified gain precalculation principles in CE-labelled Sonova brand hearing aids, such as Phonak devices, for people with hearing loss. The study aims to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of these gain precalculation methods by measuring how well participants understand soft speech. This controlled, single-blinded, randomized clinical evaluation will take place at the Sonova AG Headquarters in Stäfa and includes both objective laboratory tests and subjective participant ratings. Participants will be fitted with two different pairs of hearing aids that use different gain precalculation principles. One pair will use a competitor device's standard gain precalculation, while the other two pairs will use experimental gain precalculation principles with varying degrees of sound amplification. The study compares these different hearing aids to assess their impact on speech intelligibility. During the study, participants' speech understanding will be assessed from enrollment through the end of treatment at 3 weeks. Researchers will collect data on speech intelligibility, hearing test reliability, and participant feedback about listening experiences. Participants will also complete questionnaires to provide subjective ratings, helping to determine how well the different hearing aids improve hearing function.
